Player side schemes were first introduced in NeXt Evolution expansion. They’re structured like other side schemes, except they have a resource cost and are played by the players. They usually have beneficial effects for the players when they are defeated.
- All rules that apply to player cards apply to player side schemes, such as only being put into play during your turn.
- A player can play only one side scheme per turn.
- When a player side scheme enters play, it’s placed next to the main scheme in the villain’s play area.
- Each player side scheme enters play with an amount of threat on it equal to its starting threat value.
- The maximum number of player side schemes in play at any time is limited by the player side scheme limit.
- For 1-2 players, the limit is one
- For 3-4 players, the limit is two.
- If there are ever more player side schemes in play than the limit, the first player chooses and discards player side schemes until the number in play does not exceed the limit.
- A player side scheme remains in play until it’s defeated (no more threat on it), or it’s discarded due to player side scheme limit.
- Any rules or cards that refer to “schemes” or “side schemes” also refer to player side schemes.
- Player side schemes can be thwarted by heroes, allies, events, etc.
- If a card removes thread from multiple schemes or side schemes, those side schemes can be the player side scheme(s).
- Anything that counts side schemes in the game, also counts the player side schemes. For example, Masterplan or Loki.
Q. If there is only a player side scheme in play, can Loki (#1) take damage?
A. No. Loki (#1) considers player side schemes, as if they are regular side schemes.
Q. Does Masterplan place 4 threat on the player side schemes too?
A. Yes. Masterplan considers player side schemes as regular side schemes. That also means, if you place 4 threat on a player side scheme because of Masterplan, you don’t need to discard cards and take out a new side scheme.
Q. If a player is defeated, what happens to their player side scheme?
A. If a player is defeated, all their cards are removed from play. That includes their player side schemes.
Q. What does Victory X means on player side scheme?
A. The Victory keyword means that the player side scheme is placed in the Victory Display when defeated (all threat is removed). The number is used by some campaigns as scoring.
