Keyword: Alliance

Alliance keyword could be found on player cards. When a player declares their intention to play an alliance card, any player may help pay the cost for the card by spending resources from their hand or from their board.

The player who owns the card and is playing it from their hand is considered the one playing the card. Meaning only they can trigger effects related to them playing that card.

If you help pay for a card, you are not considered as the one playing the card.

Can other players pay the additional cost of the Alliance card?

Certain cards, such as “As One!”, list an additional non-resource cost before the arrow (→). When the card has the alliance keyword, any player may also pay that cost.

For example:

  1. Matt wants to play “As One!”, and asks Ina for help
  2. The total cost of playing this event is 2 resources, as well as exhausting a Guardian character, and an Avenger character.
  3. Ina exhausts an Avenger ally she controls.
  4. Matt pays 2 resources and exhausts his Guardian ally
  5. The card’s cost is paid, and its effect resolves.

Ina can do that even in Alter-ego, as she is not the one who played the event.

Can you assist with paying the Alliance card cost if you are in Alter-ego?

Yes. The requirements for playing the card are on the person who plays it. Your form matters only if you generate resources from another source that requires you to be in Hero form.

For example: If you’re in alter-ego you can’t use the Enhanced Awareness to help pay the Alliance cost.

Can I help reduce the cost of another player’s Alliance card?

It depends on the card you use. If it says “the next card you play”, then you can’t because you are not the one playing the Alliance card, even if you help pay the cost.

  • “Welcome Aboard” – It says, “next ally play” so you can if the Alliance card is an ally.
  • Deft Focus – It says, “next Superpower card you play”, so you can’t use it to help reduce the cost, even if the Alliance card is a super hero.
  • Helicarrier – You target “a player”, so you can target the player that plays the Alliance card and that will reduce it’s cost.
